Saturday’s Practice
We had a great day yesterday. To start things off, practice was very good. Next, my beloved Michigan Wolverines took control yesterday by defeating a very good Iowa team. I cannot wait for the matchup with Ohio St. On another note, my Hoosiers were beaten by the Buckeyes, but I think that Coach Hep has them on the right track. I am thinking it’s bowl time for the Hoosiers this season! Next, my Tigers struggled against the Cards, but I have no worries…Tigers in 6.
On a side note, I decided to give the staff and team the afternoon off to be with their families/friends. While we value being a part of this program, it is essential that we all have lives outside of this.
(Back to our team) After two poor practices, our guys really stepped it up yesterday (Saturday). On Friday evening, we practiced at Spiece Fieldhouse and the players were very excited to be practicing at such a neat place. What makes Spiece Fieldhouse so special is that the owner, Tom Spiece, has collected hundreds of pieces of sports memorabilia over the years and the team (and staff) really gets a kick out of all the history. I am always quick to point out one particular jersey that is hanging up just as you walk in. I like practicing at Spiece because it is all basketball. Tom is a huge fan of the game and it shows in his decor. I simply wish our energy on Friday would have transformed into thought because we certainly practiced with tired minds….and Thursday was no different.
Today, we will do a lot of walk-through things and then scrimmage. At this point, we are only practicing with 12 players. Ideally, we like around 14 or 15, but injuries have plagued us early in the year. To this point, the cream is beginning to rise to the top and we are seeing who will be our leaders this year. The point guard spot will be our biggest question mark as we lost our starting point guard from last season. As I have mentioned, we are more athletic, but I am not sure if that alone will help us win anymore ballgames.
We will continue to teach and grind. Games will be here soon…I think our guys are ready for them now.

Speaking of injuries, I am wondering how Kyle Savely is doing with his injury. And if he is back to 100% yet?

Kyle Savely is back and is 100%. He is really working on slowing his game down. He is the type that plays out of control because he is unsure, but Kyle is improving on that.
